A native New Mexican, Horacio Chávez grew up in the cultural and linguistic crossroads of the American Southwest. He earned his Bachelor of University Studies from the University of New Mexico in 1972 and went on to build a successful business career spanning 47 years, employing hundreds of people and developing a deep understanding of human character and resilience.
For over four decades, Chávez has written hundreds of poems, short stories, and memoirs in both English and Spanish. His early years living next door to a curandera—a traditional healer—left a lasting impression that continues to shape the spiritual and cultural layers of his fiction. His writing draws from a lifetime of bicultural experience, curiosity, and a passion for research and discovery.
He enjoys reading, reading, cooking and hiking, in the nearby Sandia Mountains. His first major work of fiction, Níhíni’á: Awakening, reflects a lifelong fascination with science, spirit, and the enduring search for balance.
