Andrea Dooley lives in Oakland, CA, with her husband and pets. Her sons (19 and 22) are in the very visitable cities of LA and Chicago. Andrea is the forthcoming memoir Of Paternal Bondage, from Cynren Press (August 2028). An excerpt from this book won the 2018 Christopher Hewitt Award for Creative Non-Fiction from Arts and Understanding Magazine. Andrea has also written two novels, which she workshopped at the Northern California Writers Retreat and Eckerd College Writers in Paradise. Andrea was shortlisted for the 2025 John Updike Casitas Fellowship. Andrea was a selected participant in the Stowe Narrative Lab for September 2025 for a TV pilot set in a union law firm. Andrea’s feature screenplay WHEN OPAL WAS A BADDIE was a finalist in the Berlin International Screenwriting Festival and the Cambridge Screenwriting Festival. Andrea has also published professionally, including The Beginner’s Guide to Labor Arbitration Practice and The Labor Arbitration Career. She is Articles Editor for the NAA Corner, published by Wolters-Kluwer CCH. She graduated from the University of Chicago, the Divinity School at the University of Chicago (AB 1996, AM 1996) and Chicago-Kent College of Law (JD 2000).
