Abbey Carpenter is a writer, educator, and advocate for social and environmental justice. Born in Seattle and raised in the American West, she holds an M.A. in Sustainable Community Development and has spent much of her life working, teaching, and volunteering in movements centered on equity and ecological resilience. Her debut novel, The Tortilla Star, was published by Black Rose Writing in 2020. She wrote Dora: A Daughter of Unforgiving Terrain the memoir of Dora Rodriguez which was published in 2025. Her essays and short stories have appeared in Muse It Up, Sustainable Ways, and Read It Here. Abbey co-leads The Battalion Search and Rescue which searches for the lost but not forgotten in the U.S.-Mexico borderlands. A passionate traveler with deep ties to Mexico, she now divides her time between Silver City, New Mexico and Ajo, Arizona – places that continue to inspire her writing and humanitarian work.
