Donna Lawrence writes emotionally driven coming-of-age and women’s literary fiction set in historical small-town America, exploring identity, resilience, human connection, and the hidden truths that shape our lives.
Her debut novel, Miss Virginia and the Sweet Sisters, is a suspenseful coming-of-age story set in 1960s Kentucky. She is also the author of Looking In from Outside, a reflective collection of poetry and prose. Two of her poems can be found on the 9/11 Memorial & Museum website for 2020 and 2021. Her latest release, Pen Pals: A Novella and Other Stories, blends suspense, emotional reflection, and speculative themes through a novella and a collection of short fiction. She is currently working on her fourth book.
A history enthusiast and lifelong creative, Donna also enjoys drawing in pen and ink or using graphite pencils, as well as writing music lyrics. She wrote and performed lead and background vocals for the songs “Every Day” and “Bridges Burned.” She has a deep appreciation for thoughtful storytelling across books, film, and music.
Donna earned her Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Midway University and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from Morehead State University. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Born and raised in Kentucky and now a longtime resident of Colorado, Donna draws inspiration from the people, places, and experiences that have shaped her life and writing. She also writes monthly on her blog under the name “DaMarie,” where she shares reflections and creative insights while working on future manuscripts beneath Colorado’s brilliant blue skies.
