About

Suzanne Kamata is an award-winning American writer and editor who has lived in Shikoku, Japan, since 1988. Her books include the novels CINNAMON BEACH (Wyatt-Mackenzie Publishing, 2024); INDIGO GIRL (GemmaMedia, 2019), winner of a Gold Nautilus Award and named a Freeman YA Honor Book; SCREAMING DIVAS (Simon & Schuster, 2014), named to the ALA Rainbow List; and LOSING KEI (Leapfrog Press, 2008), which was translated into Russian; the short story collections RIVER OF DOLLS AND OTHER STORIES (Penguin Random House SEA, 2025), winner of a Paris Book Festival Award and THE BEAUTIFUL ONE HAS COME (Wyatt-Mackenzie Publishing, 2012), winner of a Silver Nautilus Award; the travel memoirs OWLS IN THE GINZA (ThingsAsian Press, 2026) and SQUEAKY WHEELS (Wyatt-Mackenzie Publishing), winner of a Living Now Body Award. Her writing has also appeared in many magazines, journals, and newspapers including REAL SIMPLE, THE JAPAN TIMES, and KYOTO JOURNAL.
