About
I’m the founder of Handle Bars NYC / Global Inc., a beverage management and creative strategy firm I’ve led since 2008. We specialize in comprehensive beverage operations — from third-party collaborations, concept development and training to events, bar and menu design, and brand-building for both hospitality venues and spirits companies.
In recent years, I served as the inaugural Spirits Portfolio Director at Banville Wine Merchants, where I helped build a best-in-class global spirits’ catalog. Previously, I was the Director of Food and Beverage at The Lexington Hotel NYC, including the launch of its signature outlet, The Stayton Room.
Prior to that, I held a twelve-year leadership role at The Waldorf Astoria New York as Beverage Director of the iconic outlets, Peacock Alley and La Chine, until the hotel’s renovation. I’m also the author of The Waldorf Astoria Bar Book (Penguin), a 2017 James Beard Award finalist and Spirited Award nominee — a modern update of the hotel’s historic cocktail books.
My writing, recipes, reviews, and illustrations have appeared in publications such as The New York Times, Whisky Advocate, Wine Enthusiast, Forbes, VinePair, Punch, and Barleycorn Drinks and numerous bar and beverage books. I’ve also served as a judge at many high-profile industry events, including blind tastings and cocktail competitions.Always seeking to elevate the guest experience through, hospitality, thoughtful design and storytelling — one glass at a time.
Featured Work
The Waldorf Astoria Bar Book
Frank Caiafa--bar manager of the legendary Peacock Alley bar in the Waldorf Astoria--stirs in recipes, history, and how-to while serving up a heady mix of the world's greatest cocktails. Learn to easily prepare pre-Prohibition classics such as the original Manhattan, or daiquiris just as Hemingway preferred them. Caiafa also introduces his own award-winning creations, including the Cole Porter, an enhanced whiskey sour named for the famous Waldorf resident.
Each recipe features tips and variations along with notes on the drink's history, so you can master the basics, then get adventurous--and impress fellow drinkers with fascinating cocktail trivia. The book also provides advice on setting up your home bar and scaling up your favorite recipe for a party.
Since it first opened in 1893, the Waldorf Astoria New York has been one of the world's most iconic hotels, and Peacock Alley its most iconic bar. Whether you're a novice who's never adventured beyond a gin and tonic or an expert looking to expand your repertoire, The Waldorf Astoria Bar Book is the only cocktail guide you need on your shelf.
