An Army veteran, I was a long-time journalist with a master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a BA from Auburn University.
I have been honored with several writing awards, including 1st place for Column Writing by the East Texas Press Association in 1990, and, along with fellow reporters, 1st place for Community Service Writing by the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors in 2010, and 2nd place for Star Package of the Year, by the same organization in 2012.

As an author, my publishing credits include Bad News for McEnroe, the biography of former tennis professional Bill Scanlon, co-author, published by St. Martin's Press (2004); Among Murderers and Madness, author, (CreateSpace, 2012); Bluebonnet Youth Ranch: A History of Caring, co-author, University of Houston-Victoria Press, 2016).
