About

Colleen Morton Busch is the author of Fire Monks: Zen Mind Meets Wildfire, published by Penguin Press and named a best book of the year by Publisher’s Weekly, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Barnes and Noble.

Her articles, essays, short fiction, and poetry have appeared in literary journals, national magazines, and newspapers.

Her poetry collection, Smolder, won Ex Ophidia Press’s 2025 Richard-Gabriel Rummonds Poetry Contest, and is forthcoming in summer 2026.

She earned her MFA at Pennsylvania State University and is an alumna of Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Community of Writers, and Tin House Writers Workshop.

  • Finalist for the 2025 AWP Award Series Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction, judged by Cheryl Strayed.
  • Finalist for the Belleview Literary Review’s 2025 John & Eileen Allman Prize for Poetry. The poem will be published in the spring 2026 issue of the magazine.
