Ainissa Ramirez, PhD, is an award-winning scientist and science communicator. A graduate of Brown University, she earned her doctorate in materials science and engineering from Stanford. Dr. Ramirez began her career as a scientist at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, NJ, and was later an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Yale. She has written for Forbes, Time, The Atlantic, Scientific American, Nature, and Science and has explained science headlines on CBS, CNN, NPR, The History Channel, and PBS. Her most recent book, "The Alchemy of Us" (MIT Press, 2020) was a finalist for the LA Times Book Prize. This title also won the CT Book Prize, the AAAS/Subaru Book Prize, and was selected as a top science book by both the Smithsonian Magazine and Science Friday. Her expertise in communicating science to the public has also been lauded by the American Institute of Physics. She has also been elected as a fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Currently, Dr. Ramirez is writing a series of children’s science books with MIT kids Press and Charlesbridge.
