Originally from New Zealand, Kingston Trinder is a Los Angeles-based nonfiction author, publisher and filmmaker. He has authored a novel, Milk Tooth (2012), two biographies (2026 publication scheduled), and contributed to various journals, fine art monographs, and visual ethnographies: Old Glory (2016), Chromatic Reflection (2016), An Atlas of Rare & Familiar Colour (2017), Who is Michael Jang? (2019), John Cage: A Mycological Foray (2020), Talk Soon (2021), Thor Heyerdahl: Voyages of the Sun (2022), and The Edible Allan Ginsberg (2026). Journey of the Red Knots, his first children's book, illustrated by Espen Friberg, will be published in spring 2026.
Kingston is presently developing several nonfiction books, screenplays, and documentary films. The Routine, an independent film he wrote and directed with Peter Gerard premiered at the International Film Festival Boston in April 2025. He is the recipient of numerous literary awards, creative fellowships (including Fabrica) and writers’ residencies, and is a member of the National Press Club and The Authors Society. Kingston holds a Master of Arts (Material & Visual Culture) from UCL. He is represented by Morwenna Loughman of Aevitas.
