Unlocking Your Authentic Voice: A Guide to College Composition
"Unlocking Your Authentic Voice: A Guide to College Composition" guides students to embrace the messiness of writing, both in content and in process. Drawing on the wisdom of writers such as Sarah Allen and Maria Mazziotti Gillan, the text encourages freewriting, storytelling, and the cultivation of authentic voice in a new era shaped by AI, while keeping traditional practices of essay writing and argument alive.
The book explores a wide range of genres including poetry, science fiction, horror, and magical realism as examples of how literature can serve as social commentary and a source of inspiration. Students are invited to engage with ancient philosophers for timeless guidance, contemporary authors for fresh perspectives, and practical exercises that emphasize clarity, concision, and creativity.
