Breaking Free: The Lie of Equality and the Feminist Fight for Freedom
Breaking Free is a “Big Ideas” book arguing that feminism needs to re-evaluate its values: that equality is a fallacy and an ineffective strategy and endgame to our liberation. Instead, I argue that feminists need to reclaim freedom from the ideological right and center it as the guidepost of our politics (recuperating a long tradition of feminists along the way). In doing so, I assert that we need to break free of the equality mindset that has hemmed us into the harmful and reductive gender binary.
