About
Author, Ghostwriter, and popular Public-Speaker, Joanne Gilbert grew up in a Jewish suburb of Detroit in the 50s. She was profoundly influenced by the Holocaust experiences of Survivors. Further inspired by her refugee Grandmother’s painfully poignant stories of her family and friends who were victims of the Nazis in Vilna, Lithuania, Joanne was haunted by unanswered questions such as: Why the Jews didn’t fight back? Why didn't the Gentiles help them? Following her 40-year career as an educator, Joanne embarked on a mission, traveling across the US, Canada, and Europe, to find the answers to these questions. Her book, the first in a series, "WOMEN OF VALOR: Polish Resisters to the Third Reich," based on her 1st-hand interviews with now elderly women who as girls, had defied the Nazis, was published in 2014 by Gihon River Press. She is now working on the second book, "WOMEN OF VALOR: German, French, & Dutch Resisters to the Third Reich," as well as, "A Victory for Miriam," a middle-school memoir of Dr. Miriam Brysk, who as a child during the Holocaust, lived with the Partisans in the forests of Poland. Joanne founded "YOUR WRITE TIME!" in 2007, to provide editing services and help clients preserve their family stories in literary legacies.

WOMEN OF VALOR: Polish Resisters to the Third Reich
Engaging, informative, and inspiring, "WOMEN OF VALOR: Polish Resisters to the Third Reich" is based on author, Joanne Gilbert's extensive research and 1st-hand interviews with now-elderly Jewish and Gentile women, who as girls, actively defied the Nazis. It provides a valuable previously missing perspective to Holocaust and Women's History and literature by showing that: most Jews did not go "silently like sheep to the slaughter," most Gentiles were not Nazi collaborators, and that women played an important role in anti-Nazi Resistance.
