Sailing Against The Tide
In 1766, Jeanne Baret, a brilliant herbalist from rural France, defies every expectation of her gender. Disguised as a boy, she joins a global expedition as the assistant to the Royal botanist, Philibert Commerson. Aboard the L'Etoile Jeanne faces grueling sea voyages, under constant threat of discovery. With every plant she gathers and every mile she sails, she proves that courage and intelligence know no gender. The book is a sweeping tale of the resilience, and courage of a woman who dared to chart her own course.
