The Philly Phenoms
Set in the Philly suburbs, the middle grade fiction work chronicles 10-year-old Lee Lomax’s introduction to - and inevitable obsession with - the game of golf. Like many early adolescents, Lee idolizes his dad, Sam, a talented golfer turned Band-Aid salesman who has put his passion for the game on the back burner to focus on providing for his family. Lee vows to spend his summer at Sam’s blue-collar country club, hoping that will entice his dad to do the same. Sam, however, is a family man and his family needs him at home. Big time. Although Lee is relentless, it’s not until he runs into the despicable Hal Rustin, a belligerent old crank who wants nothing more than to have the Lomax family booted from the club, that Sam starts thinking about stepping in. We tag along with Lee as he searches for a cure for his stubborn golf itch and circles a special charity match on the first anniversary of September 11 as both a potential elixir and the opportunity of a lifetime for the Lomax family.
