About
Born in Newark, NJ of Afro-American, Tsalagi (Cherokee), Irish and English ancestry, Patrice M. Wilson has lived, studied and taught in NC, CT, MD, DC, VA and HI, where she made her home in Honolulu 1985-2014. She then lived 5 years in the mountain rain forest and bird reserve at the cloistered Carmelite Monastery in Kaneohe. She now resides in the lovely planned suburban town of Mililani on Central Oahu. Her BA in English is from University of Maryland--College Park, her MA with poetry manuscript thesis and her PhD in English from University of Hawaii at Manoa. She has had three chapbooks published with Finishing Line Press (now out of print), and one full-length book, Hues of Darkness, Hues of Light, with eLectio Publishing (2013). Her poetry has appeared in many journals, and has received recognition in poetry contests. In addition to writing, she likes to walk a lot, read, crochet, make jewelry and listen to music, which she now enjoys full-time as a retired Associate Professor of English, Hawaii Pacific University, Honolulu, HI.
Featured Work
HUES OF DARKNESS, HUES OF LIGHT
A collection of my poetry in three parts: In the Blinding Darkness (10 poems); Something to See By (19 poems); and Hues of Light (20 poems). As the title implies, the book is about experiences of darkness and light in the conventional sense: the one being less than ideal or positive (sad, frightening, etc), the other being more positive (happy, comforting, etc.) and therefore preferable. Most poems were written between 2007 and 2013, the year before I entered the Carmelite Monastery in Kaneohe, HI, also the year the book was published. Below is a reader's description of the book.

Subtle, sensitive, relevant

Format: Paperback
Patrice M. Wilson's book is subtle, sensitive, relevant. This is a kind of poetry that shimmers with meaning and beauty. In a subtle way, it also tackles pain and injustice. I highly recommend HUES OF DARKNESS, HUES OF LIGHT. (I purchased this book directly from its publisher, eLectio Publishing.
