Lotta Crabtree: Gold Rush Fairy Star
To support her family, eight-year-old Lotta Crabtree danced, sang, and dared to joke and strum the banjo when both were considered unladylike. Miners in the Sierra Nevada Mountains threw golden nuggets at her feet. Teenage Lotta was a San Francisco sensation. She soared on to national stardom inspiring girls and women to play the banjo and perform in the theatre. Lotta Crabtree was America's first comedienne.
