I started my academic career in the basic sciences and then wandered in public health and finally into medicine. After going through a dark night of the soul, I realized that not only had I not tapped into my creative potential, I had internalized the notion that engaging in creative acts was not just frivolous but a weakness. A diagnosis of breast and lung cancer refocused my priorities and it began my creative career as a Kidlit author.
