About
I have been an activist working to support survivors of sexual abuse, prevent future abuse, and work to hold predators accountable. I am a survivor of child rape and sexual abuse by a priest and have been active with the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, SNAP, since 1995. I was the president of SNAP from 2018 to 2021 working locally and nationally to support survivors.
My manuscript describes the rising social movement of survivors who have created hundreds of organizations to support survivors, prevent abuse, and hold predators accountable. The manuscript describes the leaders of this movement, the challenges, the successes, and a call to action for future actions.
My website, StandupSpeakup.org, provides references, commentary, analysis, fact sheets, guidance, statistics, and databases. I also have social media links available: https://linktr.ee/timlennon.

Stand Up Speak Up How Survivors Created a Movement to End Sexual Violence

We Are the Movement We Have Been Waiting For
Survivors of sexual violence emerge from silence to challenge the cultures of subjugation and institutions of power to build a new social movement. These survivor activists created hundreds of advocacy organizations and thousands of social media initiatives to establish the foundation of the Survivors Movement. The rise of Me Too activism ignited awareness that illustrated the hidden epidemic of sexual abuse in society. Survivors emerged from silence to force dramatic reforms in law, culture, and social relations. Their power continues to expand and coalesce due to the growing collaboration between and among survivor organizations to form coalitions. This emerging social movement forces changes in law, social relations, and awareness of the ubiquity of sexual violence in society.
