About
At six months old, Becky's parents carried her into Bench Lake at Mount Rainier. That national park became her family’s go-to for camping and hiking. It also became the start of her lifelong connection to national parks: working summers in Glacier during college, skiing Yellowstone in winter, biking Canyonland’s White Rim, and backpacking parks such as Big Bend, Grand Teton, and Olympic. After moving to Montana, she returned to Glacier to serve for 10 years as a hiking and backpacking guide.
Concurrently, she wrote about Glacier, wildlife, hiking, and skiing for magazines and later Moon Travel Guides to Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton. She never imagined that path would propel her into hiking so many parks, including far-flung locales such as Denali, Haleakalā, and Virgin Islands and newly created parks such as White Sands and Cuyahoga Valley. When her first edition of Moon USA National Parks came out, it was honored with a Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Award. And several editions later, the national parks still enchant her. Each park she re-visits enthralls her with its uniqueness, wildlife, scenery, trails, and adventures. The parks connect her intimately to the earth and her own roots. But most of all, they fill her with awe.
