About

Susan Alexander is an erstwhile lawyer who focuses now on writing. Her writing reflects much of her earlier work as a lawyer. She's worked as a public-interest lawyer as well as a judge's law clerk and a law school professor. She also spent several less-than-exhilarating years working at three Chicago law firms.

Susan has been a writer since childhood, writing her first stories {her "Tiny Tot Books"} to escape listening to her boring second-grade teacher. She's gone on to write nonstop ever since, in newspapers, magazines, and other publications.

She launched into writing riveting thrillers and mysteries in 2009. Her readers have described them as non-put-down-able "must reads."

A QUICKER BLOOD is a suspense-packed thriller featuring Karen Clark, a young woman who's disillusioned with her life as a Wall Street lawyer. The title, taken from a poem by Emily Dickinson, sets the scene. Encountering another young woman with the exact same name, Karen assumes the other woman's identity, hoping to begin an idyllic new life as a small-town lawyer. But he soon uncovers terrible secrets that lead her to fear for her life.

JEALOUS MISTRESS is an exciting murder mystery with more than one shocking twist. Suburban mom Alison Ross has abandoned the demanding career of a lawyer so she can spend more time with her young kids. When she stumbles across a dead body at her daughter's school, she decides to find out exactly what happened. Pursuing the real killer while she juggles life at home with her family, she discovers a host of shocking secrets in the quiet suburb of East Winnette.

RED DIANA is a chilling thriller set in San Francisco. Karen Clark, the protagonist in A QUICKER BLOOD, reappears in a totally new story. She's moved from Chicago to San Francisco with her young daughter, Davi, and fallen in love with her new life in the city. But one terrible day, Davi is abducted on Market Street, and Karen is gripped by fear. Her fear subsides when Davi is returned unharmed, but a threatening note is pinned to Davi's shirt. Karen must find out who grabbed Davi--and why. Her only clues are Davi's recall of a brown sofa and the words "Red Diana." Working with SFPD detective Greg Chan, Karen reaches a dead end. She then bravely plunges ahead on her own and finally gets the answers she's been seeking.

Susan has spent most of her life as a lawyer and writer. But she also spent a few years as a stay-at-home mom, always in pursuit of a good part-time job. She was usually able to find interesting part-time work, allowing her to keep in touch with the working world while she spent most of her time with her young children. Susan's experience parallels that of Alison Ross in her novel, JEALOUS MISTRESS.

Similarly, Susan's move from Chicago to San Francisco parallels that of Karen Clark in RED DIANA.

Susan's non-fiction writing has appeared in a wide array of publications, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times, The San Francisco Daily Journal, the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, and a host of other professional and mainstream publications. She was the first editor of The Almanac of the Federal Judiciary, and her short story "Neglect" was a winner in Chicago Lawyer magazine's first annual fiction competition.

Susan has published a blog, Susan Just Writes, since 2012. It covers a wide range of topics, including the scourge of drug commercials on TV, the importance of giving thanks to people who make us happy, and why women's clothes should all have pockets!

Susan spent most of her life in Chicago but now lives and writes in San Francisco.
