A former long-time books editor at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, I spent three years reviewing books on a freelance basis for the Star Tribune, the Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post and elsewhere. Now, sadly, many of those venues are gone. I am the author of a memoir, "News to Me: Adventures of an Accidental Journalist" (University of Minnesota Press, 2010), which won a Minnesota Book Award, and "Ghosts of Fourth Street," which was published by UMnPress in 2026. I teach in the low-residency MFA program at the University of Georgia.
