A former long-time books editor at the Minneapolis Star Tribune, I now review books on a freelance basis for the Star Tribune, the Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post and elsewhere. I am the author of a memoir, "News to Me: Adventures of an Accidental Journalist" (University of Minnesota Press, 2010), which won a Minnesota Book Award. My next memoir will be published by the University of Minnesota Press in spring of 2026.
