I am a Pushcart nominee in fiction and in poetry, winner of 2025 First Place Winner, Poetry Society of SC John Edward Johnson Prize, winner of NC Writers’ Network 2024 Randall Jarrell Poetry Competition, and a past finalist for the NC Poetry Society Poet Laureate Award and for a Broad River Review Ron Rash Poetry Award. I am delighted to have four new poems featured in Soul Forte under the heading "Lamentations Witnessed by Samplings."

My work is widely published, including in Capsule Stories, Clayjar, Fourth River, Heron Tree, inScribe, Kakalak, Main Street Rag, Making Waves, moonShine Review, Mythic Circle, North Dakota Quarterly, Northern Appalachia Review, Petigru Review, Pinesong, Raven’sPerch, Skeleton Flowers, Stonecoast Review, storySouth, and elsewhere.

I am a former professor of architectural and landscape history. I have also been an advocate for unhoused families and abused children. Now I read poetry to the dying through hospice and facilitate hospice grief writing workshops that include found poems, nature rituals, and my homemade gingerbread. My passions include growing sunflowers with cow manure and talking with the ghosts of my dead cats, Alice B. Toklas and Thomas Merton.
