Writer, blogger, and science communication professional. Author of Insectpedia (Princeton University Press, 2022); Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect (Princeton University Press, 2021), also translated to Chinese. Lead author, Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America (Houghton Mifflin, 2007) with Kenn Kaufman. Co-author, Insects Did It First (Xlibris, 2018) with Gregory S. Paulson, and translated into Hebrew. Articles on insects published in Birds & Blooms, Natural History, Missouri Conservationist, Colorado Gardener, Wonderful West Virginia (won an award on their behalf in 2014, first place Magazine Wildlife Article from the Association for Conservation Information), and others. I run the two blogs Bug Eric and Sense of Misplaced. My forthcoming book will be Bugwatching: The Art, Joy, and Importance of Observing Insects, from Princeton University Press. I currently reside in Leavenworth, Kansas, USA, with my partner, Heidi.
