The Journey of an Invisible Woman
In her book, The Journey of an Invisible Woman, Sandy Camillo shares stories of the intimate struggles that she, her friends and other women throughout history have experienced in combatting gender bias. She invites you to journey with her, beginning with her rebellion against playing in the doll corner in kindergarten, to the discovery that her knight on the white horse actually had a black heart. Then continue your journey with her as she realizes that the fight to remain visible becomes even more difficult as a woman ages.
Many women discover, as they age, that their light is fading in the world and they are now expected to be satisfied sealing envelopes as a volunteer for a nonprofit organization or babysitting a precious grandbaby, in lieu of running a board meeting. For a young woman reading these words, she might be thinking that these scenarios can’t happen to her, but unless she plans on dying at a young age, she will get older, and the specter of becoming an invisible woman may become very real for her. It did for Sandy, and as she was soon to find out, many of these obstacles were gender specific.
It didn’t happen overnight; the seeds were planted early in her childhood and subtly grew, as society erected barriers that she had to overcome if she were to achieve her goals.
For those few brave men who are secure in their own skin and are debating whether this book is for them, the answer is yes, because this is their chance to finally understand how women think.
