I'm a New York Times best-selling author of more than 50 books for children and young adults and have been writing, working, and teaching in the publishing world for nearly 30 years.
I'm available for editorial assessments, developmental editing, and copyediting, and I love working with writers at all stages of their careers. My editing style is honest but gentle—my job is to help you create the best book you possibly can, but I also know what it's like to be on the other side of those editorial letters! Together we'll bring out the strongest aspects of your writing and address any issues getting in the way of your best work.
My own books have been published by Candlewick Press, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Kane Press/Astra Publishing House. I have written and edited books in all formats and age levels from board books to YA novels, including both fiction and nonfiction. I've worked as an editor for Random House Children's Books and Hachette Book Group and as a copyeditor and proofreader for such educational publishers as College Board and Kaplan K12. I am also a writing instructor and the current Writing for Young People genre chair in Lesley University's MFA program in creative writing.
Although my specialty is children's and YA publishing, I'm also happy to work with writers of adult books, especially (but not limited to) speculative fiction of all kinds.
