About the Service

I offer editing services for novels and memoirs. I worked as a staff editor for 12 years, have been teaching memoir and fiction at a nonprofit literary center since 2013, and have published a critically acclaimed novel and memoir. I offer developmental editing, which looks at the big picture, and my specialty is helping writers pare down material that is too long. My talent is helping writers cut "needless words," as E.B. White called them. I once helped a memoirist cut her manuscript from 600 pages to 300 pages, for instance. But if I had a superpower, it would be line editing. I help writers make their work tighter and fresher--and therefore better--at the sentence level. That, I think, is a relatively rare skill among freelance editors. I am happy to offer samples to showcase what I can do.
