Hello!
I like to partner with emerging and experienced writers to take their work from good to great.
In the past 12 years, I have written speeches for major award shows, forewords of classic novels for literary imprints, ghostwritten one memoir and co-wrote two autobiographies, interviewed Fortune 100 CEOs, was on staff at The Paris Review, created a style guide from scratch for a financial consultancy, had a story developed for Netflix, edited the arts section of a Brooklyn newspaper, presented at academic and business conferences, published a memoir and several works of short fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction.
As a journalist in Alaska for five years, I learned all about Associated Press style, as well as editing quickly and accurately. As the personal writer for a Chief Operating Office of a major corporation, I wrote and edited RFPs, SOPs, NDAs, and an entire library of other acronyms. I have taught MLA, APA, and Chicago Manual of Style at the undergraduate level, and as a communications professional, have worked with style guides for the SEC, U.S. Navy, and the U.S. Government Publishing Office.
In my work for small businesses, self-published authors, academics, and journalists, I am personable, proactive, and honest. My feedback is always clear and actionable with short and long-term rationales. I know of many simple tweaks to see instant improvements in nearly any genre, but I especially enjoy more in-depth editing related to content strategy and audience analysis.
I am a tenure-track/cce writing professor at Lehman College, City University of New York, where I have introduced courses on Communications for ESG, Writing Queer Literature, and on a social theory called The Allure of Persecution. I have also taught courses on contemporary literature, LGBTQI+ literature, the novel, writing for social media, writing creative nonfiction, copyediting, professional presentations, and publishing.
I hold an MFA from Hunter College, a BA in English literature and psychology from The University of Alaska Anchorage, a certificate in publishing from Columbia University, and am pursuing an MBA at Baruch College. I live in New York City and have roots in Alaska and Southern California.
