I am looking for an agent who could help me find an appropriate publisher for my memoir, Journey Into Other Worlds. This book is an account of my intellectual journey from youth to 20 years of field work in the Altai Mountains of Russia and Mongolia. My trajectory took me by way of graduate work (University of Chicago) in Central Asian and Chinese art history, and included an extended stay in the former Soviet Union (Moscow, Leningrad, Novosibirsk, Altai Republic).
My work in the Mongolian Altai focused on rock art (petroglyphic imagery) and monumental archaeology. Together with my team of Russian and Mongolian researchers, we were the first to identify the largest and among the finest and oldest rock art sites in North Asia—all previously unknown. Our work supported the development of a successful Mongolian nomination for the World Heritage site, Petroglyphic Complexes of the Mongolian Altai.
My memoir recounts my intellectual journey to Mongolia, the processes of discovery and analysis of a huge amount of material, and the significant challenges of working in such a remote region. It also includes an extended consideration of our lives among the herders of the high Altai; in this respect, my memoir has a significant anthropological component.
The memoir is richly illustrated with the photographs of Gary Tepfer, a noted photographer. He is also my husband and was deeply involved in every aspect of our many years of field work.
